Imagine having your whole world turned upside down, at just six years old.
In 2017, Sreyly was riding alongside her pregnant mother on a motorbike when a car suddenly slammed into them. At only six years old, Sreyly lost her mother, unborn sibling, and lower right leg all at once. This devastating incident is hard enough to imagine as an adult - but for a child is unfathomable
Yet only ten months later, Sreyly was up and running during her first fitting for her new Joshi modular prosthetic limb. She was joyous, thankful, giggly, and ready to take on the entire world.
Sreyly has continued to amaze everyone with her physical and emotional progress. To say Sreyly is resilient is an understatement; in the face of tragedy, her Joshi has helped her move forward in every way. She walks to school with her friends every day, and is able to focus on what’s important: simply being a kid.
Mobility impacts everything - from the ability to get dressed in the morning and walk to school, to how you feel when you look in the mirror. When you give a child mobility, you improve their self-esteem, provide access to education, future employment, and the tools to live self-sufficiently. One prosthetic limb, orthotic device, or wheelchair, will transform the life of a child living with a disability and break the cycle of poverty they were born into.
Unable to move independently since birth, Bhuwan relied on his parents to carry him daily to school. That, and so much more, changed when we provided Bhuwan his first wheelchair, and the self-sufficiency that comes with it.
When we met Seyha she was timid and self-conscious of her disability. We provided her with her first prosthesis. Now Seyha is confident, ambitious, and driven with dreams of becoming a doctor.
In May 2006, Sulistyo lost his leg after a devastating earthquake hit Indonesia. In 2011 we met Sulistyo and provided him with his first prosthetic. Now Sulistyo is studying to be a web developer.
We’re committed to providing not only that first crucial device to help our CoolKids gain or regain their mobility, but to maintaining it, and all the opportunities mobility provides. CoolKids Club members help provide the continuous follow-up care our kids need as they grow, all the way through age 21.
