FAQ.
-
A matching gift is a charitable donation made by a corporation that matches an employee’s donation to an eligible nonprofit organization, usually dollar for dollar. There are thousands of companies across the United States (as well as internationally) that offer matching gift programs to their employees. This means millions of individuals are eligible to participate in a matching gift program. In addition, 65% of Fortune 500 companies offer a matching gift program, and some companies even double, triple, or quadruple donations!
-
Eligible donations are matched by their corporate employer. For example, a $100 donation to ALTSO made by an employee of Apple is eligible to be matched (in a 1:1 ratio), literally doubling the donation for a total of $200. Apple will validate that the original donation is eligible to be matched according to internal guidelines, and will send a donation of the same value to ALTSO. Companies have different requirements for matching gifts, like minimum donation amounts, but you can easily check those requirements using the search box!

You can search for a company’s matching gift information through our interactive search box. All you have to do is type in the name of the company and choose the correct auto-fill suggestion. Details regarding the company’s matching gifts and volunteer programs (if applicable) will appear with specific instructions for submitting matching gift requests to that company. If a specific company does not appear, this does not necessarily mean that the company does not offer matching gifts. If you believe a company that offers matching gifts is missing, please email info@altso.org to suggest the addition.

Volunteer grants are a specific type of corporate giving program that encourage employees to volunteer. Through these programs companies provide monetary grants to organizations where employees regularly volunteer. This is typically done by offering a set dollar donation dependent on the number of hours a team member spends volunteering. For example, if you volunteer for 50 hours with ALTSO, Bank of America will give ALTSO a $500 grant. The volunteer hour minimums and requirements vary by company, so be sure to check yours in the search box!
