Sengsavanh, a spirited eight year old, lives with Cerebral Palsy (CP), a disability affecting over 17 million people worldwide. For those with CP, everyday movement, like coordination, balance, and walking can be a challenge, often making mobility aids, like wheelchairs and orthotic braces, essential for daily use.

Growing up, Sengsavanh had to rely on her mother to carry her around as a means of mobility since they were unable to afford the care Sengsavanh needed. But, thanks to your generosity, we provided Sengsavanh with an appropriately fitted wheelchair and committed to her continuous care, so she can move how she wants, when she wants.

While ~75 million people globally need a wheelchair, 85-90% do not have access to one. Of those, an estimated 64 million people without access to proper care live in LMICs. Customized wheelchairs remain one of the most difficult items to source in LMICs. Thanks to you, Sengsavanh is no longer one of them.

Sengsavanh’s appropriately fitted wheelchair offers postural support, helping her sit up, breathe, and eat comfortably. For her mom, it allows her to struggle less, and the freedom to enjoy the little moments with her daughter.

Access to an appropriately fitted wheelchair is the difference between a life of isolation and pain, and one of inclusion and hope.

Now, both Sengsavanh and her mother feel "happy and independent" and enjoy visiting the park together, Sengsavanh's favorite activity. Sengsavanh can now spend more time outside, enjoying the sunshine and a greater quality of life. On behalf of Sengsavanh and her family, thank you.
