Panha grew up in a small wooden home on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, with his mom, father, and five siblings. In front of their home, is a street filled with heavy commercial traffic.
At the age of five, while playing in his front yard, Panha was hit by a bus and lost his leg. Panha’s parents did not have the savings needed to purchase a prosthetic for their son, only earning $3 on a good day.
When he was provided his first prosthetic limb, Panha was thrilled that he could walk freely and play with his friends, sharing, “My prosthesis helps me a lot…without my prosthesis, I cannot go to school.”
Together, we’ve ensured that Panha's mobility has not been jeopardized again, providing him with the free mobility care he needed to finish high school while also pursuing his passions.
Today, Panha has his own YouTube channel where he produces educational videos to help others explore new technology. In 2019, Panha shared, “Sometimes my friends suggest I make a video that will help them, such as how to frame good photos or videos. It is exciting to share my knowledge and experience with people...My passion is to become a filmmaker.”
Putting his dreams into action, we’re proud to say Panha is now managing his own photography and filmmaking business, even producing his very own clips for ALTSO!
Director, producer, writer: who knows what’s next for Panha! But we do know he’ll get there.
