Chantrey, the youngest child of six, was born with abnormal limb growths on both of her legs. As a young child, Chantrey was brought to the hospital to have surgery on her legs so she would be able to use prosthetic limbs.

Unfortunately, after the operation was completed, a harsh reality came into focus: Chantrey’s family could not afford even one prosthetic limb for their daughter, let alone two prostheses, or the follow up care that Chantrey would need as she grew. This was a painful time filled with worry and fear.

Chantrey’s mother shared with us,“As a mother, I am feeling so worried about my daughter and her future. I am worried that she would not be able to find a job...due to this disability when she grows up. She might feel embarrassed too when she grows up. I could not go out to find a  job to do because I am worried about my daughter. Since my mother passed away, I need to stay home to look after her.”

For years, Chantrey walked painfully on her knees, often developing sores, and growing more self-conscious of her disability by the day.

Thankfully, in 2018, we proudly provided Chantrey with her first prosthetic limbs and committed to covering her care as she grows. In a moment, Chantrey’s future transformed into one filled with hope, community, and confidence.

Chantrey told us, “Before I did not have legs to walk. At school, I wanted to play with my classmates when they were playing at our school garden. But, I could not. Now, I have legs to walk. I will walk with them and want to be a doctor.”

Chantrey’s mother was just as happy to see her daughter finally take her first steps: “Now, my daughter can walk like other girls in my village. I am very happy and feeling very much relieved and so excited...”

Thanks to your continued support, Chantrey is still moving forward. Our Joshi’s modular functionality allows us to easily adjust Chantrey’s prostheses as she grows, and its sleek design means she will be proud to wear it.

Now in middle school, Chantrey bikes to school where she studies, but more than anything, she looks forward to playing badminton with her friends, an activity she once dreamed of doing. On behalf of Chantrey and her family, thank you.
